Recovery & the start of winter

It’s been a while since my last blog and Ive done a few interesting things since then. After my last race of the season I took 3 weeks recovery from racing/training, I had a stinking cold and only rode my bike a handful of times. During this time I spent a weekend visiting friends/family, watching a Joy Division tribute band and going to see a comedy act (Jason Manford from Live at the Apollo). I also had a long weekend at a relatives house in South West Scotland for complete R&R. I lazed around, played the Wii and went to the pub for a game of killer with the locals. The scenery up there is spectacular and it was great to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and completely chill out. During this 3 week period I probably drank more beer than I have done for the last 3 years!

The second weekend in November marked the start of my winter training for the 2010 season. I plan to race mainly MTB next year so my training is going to reflet this. It was great to catch up with everyone from the team on the first few Saturday training rides, some are still quite fit but my legs started to complain after 90 minutes of steady riding! The wind has been super strong these past few weeks making it quite hard going. Saying that, people in the Lakes have been hit very badly with flooding/wind damage, my thoughts go out to those who have lost their homes/businesses……….we have been very fortunate. Sundays have marked my Mountain Bike day for the winter, I forgot how much fun it is slipping and sliding around the muddy trails 🙂 It seems everyone is mountain biking at the moment, I see loads out on the trails at the moment and even saw Marcus on a mountain bike last weekend!! My next task is to convince Dan, Chris & Mike that mountain biking is great fun and worthy of the time and effort invested. I will report on my progress.
