We are pleased to welcome Martin Brearey and Ian Cowen to the team for the 2017 season.

Both riders are already fitting in well and will be joining us on our winter Saturday rides and also attending the team training camp in Majorca in February.

With the benefit of increased strength in numbers, we will be expecting good results from the whole team next season.

Lincoln GP

Well done to Rob Carter who continued his run of good form today in the Lincoln GP.

Rob finished 39th from approximately 160 starters all from the country’s best professional and top amateur teams.

Next target for Rob will be the North East Region Road Race Championship next Sunday.

Carter powers to victory

Monday 29th April 2013

by Dan Smith

Last weekend saw Rob Carter taking his second win of the year in the Teasdale CRC 40.5m  Hilly Time Trial.  Rob has recently been showing the kind of form that took him to top 30 in the National Road Race Champs in 2011.  He won the event by 4 minutes from Joel Wainman and Jon Sturman (2nd and 3rd respectively).  Fourth placed time trial legend Keith Murray finished in 4th place at 8min 04sec.

The weekend was not quite so successful for other members of the team…

Chris Wood took a fall in the same event that was won by Rob Carter, losing a fair amount of skin.  Fortunately there was no serious damage done to either rider or machine.

Mark Lawrence was also in the wars with a spectacular flight over his handlebars when avoiding riding over someone who had already crashed.  He was able to get back on and finish the race, but not able to pull a result out of the bag.

Currently out of action are Dan Smith and Mike Smart with back injuries, Mike Guymer who is recovering from illness and Martin Axon who is sitting his exams at university.

Hopefully things will start to go right soon enough for a strong middle to end of the season!

Next weekend sees Pete Boyes take to the start-line for the Nigel Meason Memorial 2 Day Stage Race in Leicestershire.

This Weekend

This weekend sees the boys racing at Prissick on Saturday and in the Sam Walton on Sunday… If the snow holds off!

Fingers crossed for a bit of warm weather by next weekend, Easter weekend! Although snow isn’t unheard of through to April.

Good luck to Pete, Mark and Dan at Prissick today.

Wansbeck RR

Good luck to all the team racing this weekend… We have at the Wansbeck: Pete Boyes, Mike Smart and Rob Carter.

it looks like Kipling and the Tanfields are the NE riders on form at the moment, but we should be able to give them a run for their money!

Elsewhere, I did a race at Redbridge yesterday seeing as I’m in the south and managed 6th place, but really wasn’t going well at all!

Cleveland Wheelers Hilly 21

Sunday 10th March 2013

by Dan Smith

Well today was nice… 1 degree and snowing. Not a bad performance, from the team though with 5th for me, 20th Mike Smart and 21st for Chris Wood ‘Pecker’.

I don’t think I’ll be venturing often onto the TT circuit… The lack of tactical amusement makes it a bit boring!

Yesterday’s Race

by Dan Smith

Well yesterday’s race round Prissick in the rain went a lot better than I thought it would!

It rained all day long and was absolutely freezing. I couldn’t feel the brakes after half an hour… Fortunately I did have a feeling for breaks, and managed to follow the right wheels up the road to finish with eventual winner Ben Heatherington and hitters Kipling and Bustard.

4th from this group of four was a fair result 🙂 There were some good signs for the coming season though, with the legs a lot better than expected.

Next race is today; The Cleveland Wheelers hilly 21. The last time I rode this event must be at least 15 years ago!

Spring series

Friday 8th March 2013

by Dan Smith

Early season racing doesn’t get better than this… Forecast for heavy rain tomorrow for the Highfield Kitchens race at Prissick, and then light snow for the Cleveland Wheelers hilly 21 on Sunday. Bring on the Summer please! Although I guess by that time the season will be over 🙂
